Gourab Banerji
Gourab has been practicing as a Senior Advocate since 2003, mainly before the Supreme Court of India. Graduating from the University of Cambridge in 1989 with First Class Honours, he was called to the Bar from Lincoln’s Inn in 1990. He was Additional Solicitor General of India in the Supreme Court from 2009 to 2014 in which capacity he represented the Government of India in a number of landmark cases. The Supreme Court has often sought his assistance as amicus curiae in matters pertaining to arbitration and commercial laws including enforcement of foreign awards in India and validity of arbitration agreements. It has also appointed him as sole arbitrator in international commercial arbitrations. The Government of India recently appointed him as a member of a committee set up to recommend reforms to the Indian arbitration regime.
